Are you tired of feeling rushed and overwhelmed and unprepared for the day in the morning?

We have all had those mornings where literally everything seems to be going wrong! Why must this happen when we are s

The bus will be here in 5 minutes!
Ugh…I’m getting stressed just thinking about it!!
We have had our fair share of those mornings. It is not fun starting off the day rushing out the door in a panic knowing you don’t have everything you need. Everyone is so worried about making the bus driver wait, getting in trouble with the teacher, or having to wear snow boots inside all day since you lost a shoe.
We barely say goodbye to each other cuz we are in such a tizzy. Starting off the day like that often sets the tone for the rest of the day. Then we notice more reasons why it is “one of those days”.
Life happens. Sometimes these mornings will happen regardless of how much prep work you do. In those cases, it is good to practice staying calm, having a couple backup plans in your mind just in case, or just go with the flow as best you can.

I have found some tricks that have really helped make for a more peaceful morning over the past couple years. We aren’t perfect, but we have a lot more days where I get 5 minutes to give each kid a hug and say a more meaningful goodbye than not. And that is very important to me, since my kids are growing up so fast and I want to make sure I am building a great foundation for a solid relationship as they get older.
- Create an evening checking/routine-I created these simple magnets for my kids to go through after they have their snack after school. They hang on the fridge and on a large piece of paper. When they finish the task on the magnet, they move it to the bottom of the paper. Pictures work great for kids that cant read yet. Of course they still need a bit of reminding. It is a great way to teach them to be responsible for their belongings
- Lay everything out ahead– We lay clothes on the table, backpacks, shoes, coats, ect. by the door. You could even lay out the cereal bowl, spoon, cereal container, or plates for whatever you are heating up in the morning. It is amazing how much time those simple things take up when kids are tired and groggy in the morning.
- Set alarms-I like to set an alarm 15 min before the bus comes. My kids know when this rings they need to quickly finish what they are doing and put on their outside gear. Another alarm rings 10 min before the bus comes. They know they need to quickly finish getting ready and then we still have a few minutes to say goodbye. You can play with the alarms too as you see fit. I find it is a good reminder for the kids to hurry, but I know they still have a couple extra minutes, since I set it earlier than needed.
