This post has some awesome ideas for creative games that your kids will love!
Our kids love and play these games regularly. They are a great way to spend family or one on one time together. I know your kids will love these creative games too!
We all have a shelf or 2 (or 10) full of games, puzzles, and toys. I can’t be the only mom with toys up to my eyeballs and kids who still say they are bored! How can that be?! I played with rocks and acorns when I was a kid!
Newness wears off very quickly for kids. My first response to the boredom statement is “It good to be bored! Now get creative!
Most of the time, I send them off and they almost always come back with something that genuinely impresses me. Like taking small wooden blocks and taping them to a flip flop to create high heels!
Sometimes I finish up what I am doing and join them to go create something fun together.
Our kids love “special time”. This is 1 on 1 time for about 10 minutes with each child. No phones or distractions. Set a timer and focus on connection and playing whatever your child chooses. We try to do something screen free.
Here are some creative, awesome games that our kids absolutely love! These creative games are sure to fill your home with laughter and happy squeals!

- Ball game
- We use soft balls (nerf, beach balls, squishy) and put them in a pile at the bottom of the steps. Someone stands at the top of the steps. After that, it is basically dodgeball. We have never had anyone fall down the steps. Normally they are backing away or side to side to dodge the ball. You can easily play this in a large open space.
- Tickle attack
- All kids love being tickled. My kids and I always have a blast.
- Laugh game
- 1 person takes turns standing up and acting/saying something silly. The first person to laugh stands up and takes their turn.
Spending time together as a family is so important!
It is easy for parents to say, “I’ve got things to do.” or “I’m too tired to play.” Or they think, “I’m not into the games my kids like to play.”
Take just 10 minutes each day to connect and play with your children. It pays off tremendously in the long run! Check out this post on the importance and more tips to building connection with your kids!
There will always be chores to do, work to get done, and a hundred things on our to-do lists.
Our kids will only be with us for so long. They grow up so fast. Time is flying by. I am not one bit ashamed to admit this. When my 10-year-old leaves home in 8 years, I will be a mess!
It is so easy to get caught up in the messes. Children don’t always listen and think the way we do. Spending time playing creative games is crucial. Talking with our kids is more important than most chores that feel urgent.
I’m not saying let your house become a pigsty. Working on chores with your kids is another way to spend time together. It also teaches them that you can make chores more fun. Read more about having kids help with chores here.
